My new Blog and an introduction...

Welcome to my new blog...

Here you'll be able (if so inclined) to keep up with the progression of my photographic journey. I'll be posting blogs as projects and special events come along, as well as when I have tidbits of information to share that I pick up along the way.

I'll start things off with an introduction by posting the contents of my "About Me" and various other "profile" content...

About Me
I have been in love with photography ever since I was a boy growing up in Houston Texas where I first picked up my parent’s Kodak Brownie. Early in my adult years I bought my first SLR and took a basic Black & White (film of course) photography course at a local college, and that was all it took because I was hooked.

Although it took another 20 years to get past the challenges of raising my four kids, getting beyond a successful business venture that failed (figure that one out), and building a carrier that has allowed me to both take care of my family and feed my beloved photography “habit… I’ve finally arrived at a point where I am starting to see some successes with Photography.

Like many photographers today I shoot using exclusively digital equipment, utilizing Canon professional quality DSLRs. I made the jump into digital fairly early, around 1997, however the digital cameras of that time left a lot to be desired. In 2000 I bought my first DSLR which was an Olympus E-10. For the time it was a great DSLR although it had a fixed lens. I eventually moved up to using Canon equipment with the introduction of the first generation Digital Rebel (D-300). Although it was an entry level “pro-sumer” camera, it made some wonderful images. Today I shoot with the Canon 5D and a 20D for backup.

Some Successes
In 2006 I was fortunate enough to win 1st place in Canon’s first ever, nation-wide “National Parks” contest in the Landscape category.

In 2007 photos that I shot in Beaufort, SC of the US Blue Angels were seen in newspapers around the world when Routers picked them for distribution after the #6 plane went down at the airshow in Beaufort.

Also in 2007, I lucked up and was able to be involved with several of the Extreme Makeover Home Edition builds, culminating in the ability to shoot the entire build of the house for the Wilson family in Myrtle Beach, SC. At the conclusion of that week of shooting, I was able to present a photo album of the entire building of their home to the family on behalf of myself and the company that I work for (who supplied the “rental” equipment to the contracts who did the build).

What's Next
What’s next??? In March I’ve been invited back, this time by the builders, to shoot the season finale and special project build for Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Stay tuned for a series of Blogs as the project progresses.
